Does your child struggle in the dental chair? If so, our Desert Dental Group team has some tips that may make your child’s appointment a bit easier! Those tips are:
Bring your child in at the right time
Timing is everything, so please do not bring your child into the office when it is their nap time. It’s also important to avoid coming in after naptime as well if your child tends to be cranky when they wake up. For older children, try not to schedule the appointment right after camp or school. Oftentimes, they don’t have enough energy to deal with an appointment.
Set an example
If you need to visit with the dentist as well, schedule your appointment before your child’s. That way, they can watch you during your appointment and know that the process is not as scary as it may seem. If you can do it, they can do it.
Feed your child prior to the appointment
If your child is hungry when they come in for their appointment, they won’t feel comfortable and they might even be grumpy. So, the best thing you can do to avoid this situation is feed your child before you come into the office. However, if your child has a major gag reflex, we ask that you only feed them lightly on the off chance that they throw up.
Leave your anxiety at the door
If your child thinks you’re anxious and nervous, they will be as well. So, it’s best to leave your anxiety at the door and do all you can to feel relaxed and carefree.
Now that you have the tips you need to succeed, we encourage you to call (520) 663.0419 and schedule an appointment with your dentist, Dr. Brett M. Barney, so we can visit with your child and improve their oral health. We are here to help you in any way we can, and we invite you to call our office if you have any questions regarding children’s dental care in Tucson, Arizona. We look forward to hearing from you!
