What Do Crowns, Bridges, and Implants Have in Common?

If you have damaged or lost teeth due to decay or injury, you will want to replace them for the healthy function of your smile. We are pleased to offer various dental restoration options for your benefit. Let’s take a brief look at what dental crowns, bridges and dental implants can offer you!

Dental Crown–these are used by our dentist to completely cover a damaged tooth while strengthening it in the process. In addition, a crown can improve the look, shape, and alignment of the tooth as well. Crowns may also be affixed onto a dental implant to mimic and function as a tooth. Crowns are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto a tooth or the dental implant, which can only be removed by your dentist.

Dental Bridges–these work to “bridge” the gap that remains when a tooth or teeth go missing. Bridges are supported by either the natural teeth surrounding the gap or dental implants, covering the gap between missing teeth. The teeth which serve as anchors are referred to as abutments. The replacement tooth fitted over the abutments is called a pontic.

Dental Implant–these are created from titanium to simulate a tooth root. Implants are affixed into the jawbone surgically underneath the gum line. This implant allows your dentist to attach replacement teeth or a bridge covering the space. Implants are sturdy tooth replacements that don’t come loose, nor do they need to be anchored to neighboring teeth.

If you would like to know more about these options, we invite you to schedule an appointment with our dentist, Dr. Brett M. Barney. Please call (520) 201-1717 at Desert Dental Group in Tucson, Arizona today.
